How To Enclose A Patio Without Breaking Into A Sweat

how to enclose a patioThe pandemic restrictions have forced many Americans to spend more time at home. Now, families are attending school, working, and vacationing at their residence. Moreover, industry experts expect trends in improving and utilizing outdoor spaces to continue. This development has led many homeowners to research how to enclose a patio to extend their living space.

With homeowners now considering outdoor spaces an indispensable extension of their interior, many are searching for reliable, skillful contractors. Structurally Speaking has established itself as a leader in the construction of outdoor living spaces. Since 2008, we have been helping homeowners create unique and functional outdoor living spaces.

How To Enclose A Patio Isn’t A Simple Procedure

Undoubtedly, enclosing a patio is a complex process. Unless you have experience in design and construction, it’s best to leave enclosing a patio to the professionals. A poorly constructed structure can actually devalue your home and become an eyesore. Furthermore, any enclosure failing to meet your building codes will cause legal issues when you try to sell your home.

Moreover, hiring an experienced contractor brings workmanship guarantees and warranties to protect your investment. Plus, a skilled contractor can get the job done quickly, allowing you to enjoy your new space faster. You’ll also avoid costly mistakes in design and construction.

For example, when developing your design, you need to consider aesthetics and functionality. Your enclosed structure should match the rest of your home seamlessly. Additionally, you need to consider the flow of the room when adding an exterior door. Finally, you may have to account for any physical obstructions when adding screens.

Often, your inexperience may lead you to make some mistakes. For instance, most patios cannot handle the additional weight of a roof. A patio with a shallow foundation will cause cracking in both the foundation and the enclosure’s roof. Moreover, building a roof and framework for the screens can be complicated. Mistakes in framing can lead to moisture issues and structural damage.

Which Is A Better Option, Screens Or Glass Windows?

Your patio or deck offers a great outdoor space until the mosquitoes start biting or the clouds start rolling in. Then it’s time to head for the indoors.

However, enclosing your outdoor space with screens or windows can increase your enjoyment. With a roof over your head, you’ll have protection from the sun and rain. Likewise, screens and windows will keep out those pesky little critters.

Certainly, screens are the most cost-effective means of enclosing a patio. With the air passing through, you’ll feel like you’re outdoors without the bugs. However, a screened-in enclosure is less than ideal in the colder months.

Undoubtedly, an enclosure with glass windows offers much more protection against the elements. Glass window structures can be either a 3 or 4 season room. Both can extend the usage of your enclosure beyond a screened porch.

FAQs About Patio Enclosures

Often, homeowners have many questions about how to enclose a patio. Below, we’ve answered some of those more commonly asked ones. For additional information, call us at 919-786-4825. Our staff would be happy to answer any other questions.

Do I Need A Permit?

Many home improvement projects require a permit in NC. You may even have to consider local zoning ordinances. Setback restrictions, size limitations, and building codes need careful consideration.

Thankfully, Structurally Speaking is a local contractor. We know how to design and build your structure to meet all rules and regulations. Plus, we can handle all your building permit paperwork to get construction started as soon as possible.

How Much Does It Cost To Enclose My Patio?

Certainly, creating additional living space in your home can be priceless. Your enclosed patio provides room to spread out so that everyone isn’t on top of one another. While you can’t put a financial value on your peace and happiness, you still must consider your expenses.

Undoubtedly, the best way to determine the cost of your project is to make an appointment for our free estimate. During our meeting, we’ll discuss your plans and budget. We’ll explain how each factor will affect your cost:

  • Size
  • Material
  • Design
  • Amenities

Jim Brennan, our owner, personally meets with each new client. Moreover, Jim presents 2 customized design recommendations using a 3-dimensional computer program to envision your new space. Our priority is to design an enclosure that you love within your budget.

Should I Choose Single Or Double Pane Glass?

Ultimately, the answer to this question lies in your planned usage of the enclosed patio. Both can be a good choice depending upon the purpose of your structure.

Comparatively, single-pane windows are much cheaper. However, these are basic windows with little insulating properties to protect you from extreme temperatures or noises.

On the other hand, double pane windows have a layer of trapped gas between panes for insulation. Thus, you can heat and cool your room for year-round use.

What Types Of Amenities Are Available?

Including amenities in your screened patio allows you to enjoy the outdoors in comfort. We can draw from your style and planned usage to include those “must-have” elements:

  • Fireplace
  • Storage cabinets
  • Lighting
  • Ceiling fan
  • Electrical wiring

At Structurally Speaking, we can design any type of enclosed structure from simple to grandeur. If you want a deck, screened porch, hot tub deck, sunroom, or pergola, we can create a unique, functional structure.

Why Homeowners Love Outdoor Screened In Porch Ideas

outdoor screened in porchGenerally, modern builders include porches when constructing new homes. Although the porch’s original purpose and design have changed, its popularity is still high among homeowners. Ultimately, homeowners want to connect with nature without dealing with bugs and bad weather. An outdoor screened in porch bridges the interior of your home with the natural world.

Originally, homeowners constructed porches to escape the heat from their homes. Later, the porch became a gathering place to exchange news with your neighbors. Porches moved to the back of the house when automobiles became popular making the front porch too noisy to relax.

Around the 1920s, two factors helped boost the appeal of backyard porches. The first was the invention of the mesh screen. Also, at this time doctors recommended sleeping in the fresh air to strengthen the immune system.

Nonetheless, Americans lost their interest in the screened porch for a short time. Electrical fans and air conditioning made staying indoors more comfortable. However, drawn toward nature, present-day homeowners are re-imagining the porch with modern updates.

Why Should I Consider Enclosing My Porch?

A deck or a patio is a great addition to any home. Both give you additional living space for entertaining and relaxing. However, neither can offer any protection against insects and bad weather. By enclosing your structure, you can enjoy the outdoors on cooler days or even when it’s raining outside.

Moreover, today’s buyers are actively seeking homes with an enclosed porch. Drastic life changes due to the pandemic have more family members home more often. With space at a premium, homeowners are looking to expand living space as much as possible. The enclosed porch offers a solution.

Customize Your Outdoor Space

The outdoor screened in porch of today takes many forms. Some families still prefer a simple place to relax. Others want an elaborate room with many amenities. Many of today’s enclosures are stylish extensions of the interior of their homes.

Indeed, screened enclosures are functional spaces with many uses. When designing your enclosure, think about how you’re going to use the space. Do you want an extra living room to use all year round? Or, do you prefer an additional dining area for the warmer months?

As you consider your usage, take into account your budget. Make a list of those elements that are “must-haves” for your specific lifestyle needs. Then contact Structurally Speaking to discuss your design ideas and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Building An Outdoor Screened In Porch

Typically, home improvement projects generate many questions. Below, you’ll find some of our most commonly asked ones.

How Much Will It Cost To Convert My Deck To A Screened In Porch?

Often, if you have an existing deck, you can convert it to an enclosed outdoor space. Generally, this will save you some money. An experienced contractor will look at the condition of the deck to see if this is possible. The contractor will also need to check the deck’s foundation to make sure it can support the roof and screens.

Your contractor will consider other factors to determine your cost:

  • Square footage
  • Design
  • Materials
  • Accessories

Certainly, the best way to determine your cost is with our free, no-obligation consultation. Our owner, Jim Brennan always personally meets with clients to ensure your design meets your budget and needs. Unlike other contractors, Jim presents at least two design recommendations. Moreover, Jim also personally oversees every home improvement project.

Are Screened In Porches Customizable?

Any time you undertake a home improvement project, you want to consider your home’s existing architecture. Integrating the colors, siding style, and even hardware are important for a seamless look. Of course, you also want something unique that’s different from everyone else.

Notably, Jim designs each project with your specific needs, function, and aesthetic goals in mind. Thus, he’ll continually adjust the design until it’s the exact plan you envision for your home. This includes amenities such as a fireplace, ceiling fans, or lighting.

Moreover, Jim presents your design on a laptop computer for a 3-dimensional view. Construction will not begin until you are completely satisfied with the plans.

What Are The Best Type Of Screens?

One of the most important design choices you’ll need to make is the type of screen. Today’s screen choices offer different colors and materials. Ultimately, choosing your screen depends on your usage and needs such as:

  • Visibility
  • Privacy
  • Shade

Typically, fiberglass is the most popular screen choice. It’s cost-effective, easy to install, and available in many different colors. Generally, fiberglass screens are invisible, offering protection from bugs without interfering with your view. Moreover, choosing a darker color screen will offer privacy from neighbors while providing shade.

However, metal screens are more durable and longer-lasting. Aluminum is a preferred option, but premium metals such as stainless steel, copper, brass, and copper are also available. Typically, metal screens offer fewer color choices than fiberglass.

Can You Do Other Home Improvement Projects?

Yes. Structurally Speaking specializes in custom decks, sunrooms, hot tub decks, and pergolas as well as screened enclosures. Every project we undertake receives the same attention to detail. We’re not happy until you’re satisfied.

Sure, many contractors can build you a deck. However, not every contractor can offer competitive pricing, expert project management, and a personalized approach. These are just some of the reasons why many of our previous customers refer us to a friend.

Notably, the days are quickly passing. Don’t miss an opportunity to get greater enjoyment from your porch. Call us at 919-786-4825 to find out how much it will cost to enclose your porch.

Benefits Of A Patio Enclosure

A screen room can serve many functions. You can use the extra space as a family room, playroom, dining area, home office, or entertainment area. The enclosure offers shade on the sunniest days and protection for the rain on wet days. In addition to extra living space, you’ll appreciate some other additional benefits:

  • Increased home value
  • Extra entertainment area
  • Freedom from bugs
  • Privacy
  • Visual interest

While open porches and decks are great for adding outdoor living space, they can’t protect you from pesky bugs. With a porch enclosure, the screens prevent bees, mosquitoes, flies, and all manner of annoying insects away from you. Plus, you’ll enjoy some added privacy from your neighbors.

A bonus is the visual interest a screened room adds. An enclosure adds dimension and depth. For many buyers, a screened porch is a must-have option.

Is A Screened Patio Expensive?

Having additional outdoor living space is invaluable. Sometimes, you just can’t put a price on having an extra room for entertaining, working, or relaxing. However, as a homeowner, you do have a certain budget to work within. Thus, many people want to know how much enclosing a porch will cost.

Your porch enclosure is entirely customizable so pricing widely varies. With this in mind, certain choices do affect your cost:

  • Size
  • Materials
  • Roofing options
  • Flooring
  • Amenities

When considering the size of your enclosure, be sure you have enough space to use it comfortably. Start by deciding on the main function of your enclosure. Think about the type of furniture that will occupy the space.

Additionally, you have many choices when it comes to choosing your materials. Screens, roofing, and flooring options are varied and plentiful. Plus, you can add many different types of amenities:

  • Lighting
  • Ceiling fan
  • Electrical outlets
  • Fireplace
  • Speakers

It’s best to sit down with a general contractor, like Structurally Speaking, and discuss your ideas and budget. Your contractor can help you choose the best options for your needs and enjoyment of your outdoor space.

How Can I Winterize My Enclosed Porch?

During the warmer months, you can enjoy the fresh air wafting through your enclosure while you remain protected from insects. Yet, when the days turn chilly, your screen porch becomes a neglected room. However, if you winterize your enclosure, you can enjoy your room all year round.

One easy way to winterize your enclosure is with clear vinyl curtains. Curtains are an inexpensive way to keep the chill out of your enclosure and heat in. Plus, vinyl curtains can block snow from accumulating on your porch floor without obstructing your view.

Adding vinyl curtains creates an environment similar to a greenhouse. Light energy enters your enclosure, converting to heat energy once inside. However, the heat energy cannot escape, warming your enclosure. Often, your porch can be 30° F warmer than the outside air.

Moreover, you can add a space heater or fireplace for more warmth. Moreover, a fireplace adds ambiance and makes your space feel more like your interior.

Benefits of a Hot Tub Deck

Hot tub decks are a hot topic of discussion in the home improvement and outdoor living industries. Both Travel + Leisure and HGTV recently covered them and provide numerous creative design ideas. If you are considering adding one to your house, then it is important to consider all the advantages they provide homeowners.

There are four categories of benefits that a hot tub deck offers homeowners. Those are:

  1. Homeownership benefits
  2. Physical health benefits
  3. Mental health benefits
  4. Social benefits
Homeownership Benefits

One of the biggest advantages to homeowners who choose to build a hot tub deck is that it increases their house’s value. How much value it adds depends on various factors, including the condition of the spa and deck. In some instances it can add to your home’s value up to 50% of the cost.

Another great benefit to homeowners is they create their own private luxurious backyard retreat right at home. They do not feel the need to go out and pamper themselves, because their home feels like a vacation destination.

Physical Health Benefits

There are many physical health benefits to soaking in a spa or hot tub. A few of the top ones include:

  • Creates muscle relaxation
  • Relieves joint pain, like arthritis
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Burns calories
  • Improves insulin sensitivity
  • Restores flexibility
  • Alleviates fibromyalgia symptoms
  • Lessens lower back pain
  • Reduce headaches

Now that you know the numerous physical health benefits, it is important to know regular hot tub soaking also provides several mental health benefits.

Mental Health Benefits

People often focus on their physical health but tend to overlook their mental well-being. However, Psychology Today experts share this way of thought is not good for your overall health, as your mental health is equally, if not more, important. Luckily, regular soaking in a hot tub provides vital mental health benefits. A few of the top mental health benefits include:

  • Decreases anxiety
  • Reduces stress
  • Enhances sleep
  • Improves self-esteem and confidence
  • Encourages socialization

That last bullet point hints to our final category of benefits, which are social benefits.

Social Benefits

Socialization is imperative not just to our society, but to every individual human. It is how we grow, learn, and connect. Therefore, it is crucial to know that a hot tub or spa deck provides multiple social benefits to homeowners.

First, it is a great space for bonding among couples. Quality time together drives a healthy relationship. Luckily, a hot tub deck provides a place where couples can relax and talk together in nature – without the distractions of electronics or the need to leave home.

Next, it is also the perfect outdoor living space for spending quality family time. Do not forget children love hot tubs just as much as adults! This pediatric site provides some great safety tips and guidelines for hot tubs and children.

Finally, it is the ultimate entertaining space. Your friends will be thrilled to come over to enjoy sipping wine, talking the night away, and relaxing in the hot tub together.

Now that you know the abundant benefits of a hot tub or spa deck, it is time to consider what types of decks are compatible for holding hot tubs.

Compatible Types of Decks for a Hot Tub

There are two aspects to consider when installing a hot tub on a deck.

  1. Do you already have a deck and want to modify it to include a hot tub?
  2. Are you designing a new deck that will include a hot tub?

Both have the potential to include a hot tub, but several factors will impact your finished deck. Those include:

  • Deck design
  • Size of deck
  • Hot tub or spa design
  • Weight of hot tub or spa
  • Deck materials
  • Location of hot tub or spa on deck
  • View from deck
Deck Design

If you already have a deck, then the design will need to be modified to accommodate the hot tub. However, if you are building a new deck you can simply design the deck with the hot tub in mind.

The first question to consider is will the deck be fully recessed, partially recessed, or completely above ground? It might seem easier to step into a fully recessed hot tub or spa, but it can make it trickier to get in and out. A full recessed hot tub often leads to people falling in or slipping. Additionally, hot tubs require a lot of maintenance, so it is beneficial to homeowners to have a partially recessed or completely above ground hot tub or spa. Most professionals recommend that it be at least 17 to 24 inches above the decking.

Below are a few questions that we often ask in our free, no-obligation consultation regarding deck design.

  1. Is your deck, or your future deck, a short deck, raised deck, or multi-leveled deck? These design aspects play a vital role in if, and where, it is possible to place a hot tub on the deck.
  2. Do you have a pool already and are you adding on this hot tub deck as an additional outdoor space?
  3. Would you like the deck or patio door near the hot tub? This is a great idea if you plan to use the hot tub in the cooler months. It means there is less time between being out of the water and back into the heated indoors.

These are only some of the questions to consider when adding a hot tub to your existing or new backyard deck.

Size of Deck

The square foot size of a deck directly impacts if and where you can place a hot tub or spa on your deck. Hot tubs range in size. They can be smaller for two people only or larger to accommodate more than seven people. Everything in between is available so there are numerous options to choose from for homeowners. When discussing building a hot tub deck, the size of the deck is among one of the first things we will need to know.

Hot Tub or Spa Design

Like size, the design and shape of the hot tub or spa plays an instrumental role on where it can be placed on your existing or new deck. There might be limitations on exiting decks to what options of hot tubs will work on that deck. However, on a new deck you can design the deck to accommodate any desired hot tub design.

Weight of Hot Tub or Spa

There are three weight factors to consider when building a hot tub deck.

  1. Actual weight of hot tub or spa.
  2. Weight of water required to fill the hot tub or spa.
  3. Approximate weight of maximum people hot tub or spa fits.

Depending on the size and design of the hot tub or spa, its weight will vary from approximately 600 to 800 pounds. That is the average empty weight. It is important to factor in how much overall weight support is needed; therefore, the weight of the water and occupants must be factored into the equation.

One gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds. Depending on the size, the range of how many gallons of water a hot tub holds varies. On average, a hot tub or spa holds anywhere from 300 to 675 gallons of water. This means the weight of water needed to fill a hot tub ranges from 2,502 to 5,629.5 pounds.

Do not forget about factoring in the weight of the people planning to use the hot tub. The average person weighs 181 pounds. Therefore, if you have a two-person hot tub then you need to factor in around 362 pounds. Whereas, if you have a seven-person hot tub then you need to factor in around 1,267 pounds.

When you consider all three of these variables the average loaded weight of a hot tub or spa usually ranges from approximately 3,000 pounds to 8,000 pounds. That is a lot of weight! This means it is imperative to have a deck made of materials that can support that weight.

Deck Materials

If you’re designing a new deck, then it is easier to initially select materials that you know will support the full hot tub or spa weight.

The most common deck materials are:

  • Composite decking
  • Pressure treated lumber
  • Exotic hardwood

Each has pros and cons, especially when considering its use for a hot tub deck. A composite deck tends to be one of the most common choices for its easy maintenance, lower cost, and durability.

During our free, no-obligation consultation we will discuss what decking materials you want to consider and their effectiveness for hot tub decks.

Another material to consider is reinforcement materials. Deck contractors use these materials both for modifying a current deck or building a new deck to support the hot tub weight.

The top four ideas to reinforce your deck are:

  1. Fasteners – adding to the ledger board
  2. Extra joist hangers – installing those and securing with stainless steel deck screws
  3. Beams – adding extras beams at every corner
  4. Concrete slab – adding a reinforcement concrete slab
Location of Hot Tub or Spa on Deck

A deck design also plays a key role in the hot tub placement. First, it should be somewhere that has the structural support for the hot tub or spa. Additionally, it should not be somewhere that people would easily run into the hot tub or fall into the hot tub.

View from Deck

The placement of the hot tub or spa often depends upon the view from the deck. One question to ask yourself is, do you want it against the house for more shade and privacy? Or would you rather place it further out on the deck to capitalize on your view. If you have a secluded backyard that provides a beautiful nature scene among the trees, then you might want to place it where the view is unobstructed.

Hot Tub Deck Design Ideas

One of the best parts about designing a hot tub deck is the many additional add-ons or features available for consideration. Below are some of the most popular design ideas to ponder:

  • Hooks/rack for towels or robes
  • Pergola
  • Privacy fence
  • Lattice fencing with fabric or curtains
  • Bench around hot tub
  • Steps
  • Outdoor furniture
  • Gazebo
  • Bar and seating around hot tub
  • Plants to create backyard oasis
  • Trellis
  • Fire pit
  • Screened-in area to keep bugs away
  • Outdoor kitchen
  • Lighting to create ambiance

Advantages to Outdoor Living Spaces with Decks

Ready to learn about all the amazing benefits of outdoor living spaces? Well, there are four big advantages to building a deck or adding onto an existing one. Those are:

  1. Increased Home Value
  2. Additional Living Space
  3. Safe Outdoor Spot for Entertainment
  4. Amazing Enjoyment of Mother Nature at Home

Increased Home Value

A top priority for every homeowner is maintaining and increasing their home’s value. Adding on a deck and creating a new outdoor living space at home is a great and cost-effective way to add value to your house. Outdoor projects are unlike common indoor home additions in some important ways. Adding on an in-law suite or remodeling a kitchen, are often costly and very time-consuming. Additionally, no one likes having an entire construction crew inside the house making a ton of loud noise and a mess. Outdoor additions are usually quicker and not as hard on your bank account!

According to recent data from Remodeling Magazine, in south Atlantic states a wood deck potentially adds on up to $10,000 to the resale price of a house and an expected 74.8% of costs is recoupable to homeowners. Whereas a composite deck possibly adds up to $13,000 to the house’s resale price and the costs recouped to homeowners are typically 65.3%.

Additional Living Space

Whether you have a growing family or want more room to spread out, adding usable living space to a home is often a smart, useful, and necessary decision. Adding on only indoor living space is a thing of the past, as outdoor living trends continue to grow. Options for decks now include features like outdoor kitchens, hot tubs, and outdoor entertainment centers. Additionally, a sturdy railing and lockable gate can turn a new deck into a great play space for children.

The ideas are virtually endless for deck uses. Here are a few fun ways to utilize a deck:

  • Meals
  • Parties
  • Teen Gathering Spot
  • Relaxing or Napping
  • Reading
  • School or Work
  • Family Game Night
  • Cocktail Hour
  • Movie Night
  • Stargazing
  • Art Projects
  • Vegetable Garden

Safe Outdoor Spot for Entertaining

In today’s world, social distancing is a new fact of life and the ‘new normal.’ This means outdoor gatherings of friends and family are increasing to allow for spreading out and adhering to current state maximum gathering regulations. A deck has quickly become the perfect spot for virtually any type of celebration at home this year. Spreading out chairs in a circle on the deck is a great and popular way to gather now.

While pandemics do not last forever, everything we have learned during them will remain. We have all seen and learned first-hand how great it is to gather outside in mother nature and enjoy one another’s company during these difficult times. So, even after the pandemic ends, your new deck is still a wonderful gathering place that should continue on for all the years you live at your house.

Amazing Enjoyment of Mother Nature at Home

Nothing brings a smile to someone’s face faster than envisioning spending time with family and friends and enjoying our nice Carolina breezes while doing so! Luckily, in North Carolina the weather tends to be enjoyable a large majority of the year. A patio cover or umbrella provide shade from the sun during the summer months and a hot tub or outdoor fireplace provide heat during the colder months.

One of the best qualities of North Carolina weather is our four mild seasons. We might all complain that it seems spring and fall get shorter, but regardless, they are still here. Nothing beats the view of spring flowers or fall leaves. An amazing deck allows you to view all mother nature has to offer every single day of the year! Your scenery changes every single day.

Building Your Dream Deck

At Structurally Speaking, we work with our clients every single step of the way from designing their dream deck to building the deck. Finally, at the completion of building we leave them with a beautiful deck they love and will enjoy for many years! Design is the first, and arguably the most important, step in creating a new deck. This is the step where you bring your dreams to reality with the help of our experienced team.

The four major aspects of designing a deck are:

  • Materials
  • Size
  • Layout
  • Options

During our free, no-obligation consultations we discuss all these items in extensive detail. But here is a quick rundown on what to expect for each item, so you are prepared for the discussion.

The two most common types of deck building materials are composite decking and wood decking. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Wood decking is cheaper, but composite decking tends to last longer and is easier to maintain. If you choose a wood deck, then you will also need to consider what type of wood and if you plan on staining the wood. The wooden deck will require annual or bi-annual sanding and staining to keep the wood in good condition. A cedar deck is a popular choice for its dimensional stability and beautiful look. If you choose a composite deck, you have many products and types to choose from. A Trex deck is among the most popular composite decking choice. These decks require very little maintenance in addition to periodic washing. A final choice is pavers. Some homeowners choose to place stone pavers over a wood frame for their deck.

Size

It is important to factor in the size of your house and backyard and how you plan to use the deck when considering what size would be best for your needs. If you are planning to use the deck for entertaining, then you will want something larger. However, if you are empty nesters just wanting an outdoor space to read and relax a smaller deck is a great choice. Our professionals can guide you through some of the decisions based on their experience. A deck also needs to be proportional to the size of the home.

Layout

In addition to size, another aspect of design is the layout of the deck. During our initial consultation we will discuss what type of layout you envision on your dream deck. We will need to consider where the door, gate, and stairs will be on the new deck. If you plan on additional options for your deck, then those factor into the layout as well.

Tips on Maintaining and Cleaning Your New Deck

Now that you have imagined your perfect new deck, it is time to learn how to maintain it and the various ways to clean your deck. The answer to knowing how to maintain and clean your deck depends on if you choose wood or composite decking. Certain chemicals that you may use to keep a wood deck looking new could be harmful to composite decking. Often all you need to clean a composite deck is water, a mild dish detergent, and a softer bristle brush. In contrast, common chemicals used to clean a wood deck include oxygen bleach or powdered oxygen laundry cleaner. Typically, a wood deck needs cleaning regularly to look new. Not cleaning a wood deck regularly can lead to maintenance issues. However, a composite deck requires less regular cleaning and usually you will only need to clean up food or beverage spills.

Competitive Pricing

In our initial consultations we always discuss price, so our clients know exactly what to expect from the beginning. We will discuss your budget and work together to provide you with the design that you want, while keeping within your spending limit. No two projects are ever alike; therefore, there is no one set cost for any deck. Here are some factors that go into determining a new deck price:

  • Excavation Requirements
  • Footings
  • Materials
  • Size
  • Additions
  • Obstructions (For example, a fence)

These are only some of the many variables that contribute to the calculation that a general contractor must use to determine a specific price for a deck installation.
